The gel itself cannot form a strong bond with the natural nail surface. When a technician rushes or uses incorrect methods, the gel is doomed to fail from the start:

• Skipping “Invisible Cuticle” Removal: If the tech doesn’t thoroughly scrape away the dead, clear skin clinging to your nail plate, the gel bonds to skin instead of nail. As that skin naturally sheds, the gel lifts.

• Inadequate Dehydration: Rushing past the prep step without thoroughly scrubbing the nail with acetone or alcohol leaves behind natural oils and dust, preventing the base coat from sticking.

• Over-Filing or Under-Buffing: Aggressively thinning your nails with an e-file makes them weak and bendy, causing the rigid gel to snap off. Conversely, leaving the nail completely smooth gives the gel nothing to grip onto.

• Flooding the Cuticle and Sidewalls: Sloping the polish onto your skin creates an instant lip. As the nail grows, air and water get trapped under that lip, peeling the entire sheet forward.

• Using Weak or Outdated Lamps: If a salon uses cheap UV/LED lamps or doesn’t replace old bulbs, the gel only cures on the surface. The bottom layer stays gooey and detaches within days.
Prolonged Water Exposure Without Gloves: Washing dishes, taking hot baths, or cleaning without rubber gloves forces your natural nails to absorb water and expand. When they dry, they shrink, but the cured gel stays the same size, causing it to pop off.
