How did I get my work the point of it being accused of being AI almost every day now? 😂

Whenever it happens, I think about one particular client from around four years ago.

I was about two years into doing nails, charging around £45. Still learning to notice all the little details, still figuring things out, but VERY ambitious. I wanted to be the best I could possibly be.

This client seemed quite easy-going at first.

Then, during the appointment, she kept asking to use the toilet.

I’d finish one stage. Toilet.
Finish another. Toilet again.

Eventually, it was happening so often that I had to ask if everything was okay.

She got embarrassed and finally admitted it…

She was going into my bathroom to inspect my work under a MACRO LENS 😭😂

Imagine being two years into your career and finding out your work is having a private inspection between every stage.

That set took me around four to four and a half hours. Somehow, I even booked her in a second time 😂 After that, I had to stop seeing her because it really wasn’t good for my mental health.

But something from that experience stayed with me.

I started looking closer.

At the tiny details I hadn’t noticed before. At the things I thought were finished, but could still be better.

At the time, I thought the whole situation was ridiculous. Looking back, it changed the way I saw my own work.

Sometimes a demanding experience shows you something you weren’t seeing yet. You can take that lesson with you and still decide the situation itself isn’t right for you.

Over the years, all those little details have added up to work that people now struggle to believe is real.

And somewhere out there is a woman with a macro lens who played a part in that 🫣

I wish I could tell the 20 years old me working in McDonald’s drive through in Poland where life was going to take her. 🥹

She didn’t think she’d ever leave the country. She certainly wasn’t imagining that one day, someone would fly her across the ocean to teach.

Six years after starting my own nail brand, here I am in Nashville, helping other women refine their craft. Sharing the skills I once struggled to learn myself.

When you’re always thinking about your next goal, it’s easy to forget that the life you’re living now would have felt unimaginable to an earlier version of you.

There were so many things I couldn’t have planned when I started. The people I’d meet. The places this work would take me. How something that began with practising my first sets would become such a huge part of my life.

Cenita trusted me enough to bring me into her salon and invest in her team. And the girls gave me so much in return. Their questions, their effort, their determination to keep improving, even when they were tired.

I came to share what I knew, and left feeling so inspired by them. To see them working together, so in sync, cheerful and eager to grow.

I hope you give yourself a chance to find out where your own ideas could take you. You don’t need to be able to picture every step ahead. I couldn’t have pictured this one.

Sometimes I’m so busy trying to become the woman I want to be that I forget how proud the girl I used to be would feel.

This trip made me stop and remember her.

I’ve spent so much time trying to become better that I’ve barely stopped to be proud of myself.

When I started doing nails alongside two other jobs, I had no idea this would become my full-time career. I just knew I wanted something of my own. The freedom to make my own decisions and build a life on my terms.

So I took a leap.

First, I wanted a fully booked calendar.
Then the confidence to charge more.
Then to teach again.
Then a bigger Instagram, opportunities to speak at events, better photography…

Every time I reached something I’d once wished for, I found another thing I wasn’t happy with yet.

And somewhere in all that chasing, I forgot how much it took to get here.

The hours of practice. The uncertainty. The decisions I was scared to make but made anyway.

I still have so much I want to achieve. But I don’t want to keep moving the finish line without ever letting myself feel proud.

If you’re always hard on yourself too, think about who you were before you started. Imagine showing that person what you’ve built today.

They wouldn’t be picking apart everything you still need to improve. They’d be amazed you made it this far.

Someone is looking at where you are now and hoping they’ll get there one day.

Give yourself a little of the credit you’d so easily give someone else. You’ve worked hard for this 🤍

Sometimes growth means something different from what you once wished for.

You wanted to be fully booked. Now you are, with a waitlist of people hoping for an appointment. But you’re running on empty, your prices haven’t changed, and there’s barely any time left for yourself.

You can be proud of what you’ve built and still recognise that something needs to change.

Sometimes growth means raising your prices. Taking fewer bookings. Making space for a different direction. Closing a chapter you worked so hard to build, even when you don’t feel ready to let it go.

That can feel uncomfortable, especially when the familiar feels safe, even though it’s exhausting you.

You don’t always feel ready before you take the next step. Sometimes you take it with doubts, because you know you can’t keep going the way you are.

And once you cross that line, you might be surprised by what’s waiting on the other side. More space, new opportunities, and a version of success that actually feels good to live. 🤍
