She looks delicate until you step on her.

There is a violet on the floor. Small. Perfect. Almost too pretty. Then you step on it. The petals crush under your heel, the stem snaps, and the leaves tear open, wet and dark, leaving a green stain on the floor.

You lift your foot and suddenly it looks completely different. The petals are bruised and darker at the edges. The broken stem is wet. Green sap sticks to your fingers when you pick it up. There is dirt on the petals and a damp, bitter smell rising from everything you just crushed. And somehow, this is when it becomes beautiful. Not when it was perfect. Now. When the petals are bruised, the leaves are torn, and everything that was hidden inside has been forced out. You press it once more between your fingers. More moisture comes out. The green gets deeper. The smell gets stronger, heavier, and stranger.

What looked delicate suddenly has teeth. What looked fragile suddenly feels almost dangerous. You thought stepping on it would destroy the flower. Instead, it smells better. Darker. Wetter. Meaner. You woke up the part of her that was waiting for an excuse.
Turns out, she was never fragile. You just had to step on her to find out. Crush the flower. That’s when the beauty gets interesting.
