YOUR BODY IS ALWAYS TALKING… ARE YOU LISTENING? 🩺

Sometimes, your body gives you subtle signals that something may not be right. The problem? We often ignore them until they become difficult to manage! 😟

From constant fatigue to frequent headaches, some symptoms may be your body's way of asking for attention.

Here are 13 warning signs you should never ignore:

1️⃣ Constant yawning: Could be linked to poor sleep, fatigue, or, less commonly, oxygen-related problems.

2️⃣ Persistent bad breath: May be associated with oral hygiene issues, gum disease, dry mouth, or digestive problems.

3️⃣ Ringing in the ears: Can be linked to tinnitus, hearing problems, certain medications, or other conditions.

4️⃣ Frequent dizziness: May result from dehydration, low blood sugar, low blood pressure, or inner-ear problems.

5️⃣ Unusual sugar cravings: Can be associated with hunger, stress, sleep deprivation, or eating habits—not necessarily magnesium deficiency.

6️⃣ Leg swelling: May be caused by prolonged sitting, circulation problems, or heart, kidney, and other medical conditions.

7️⃣ Loss of smell: Could be related to infections, nasal problems, or neurological conditions.

8️⃣ Constant fatigue: May be associated with poor sleep, anaemia, thyroid disorders, vitamin deficiencies, or other illnesses.

9️⃣ Frequent headaches: Can be triggered by dehydration, stress, lack of sleep, or other medical conditions.

🔟 Excessive hair loss: May be linked to iron deficiency, hormonal changes, stress, or other nutritional and medical issues.

1️⃣1️⃣ Night-time leg cramps: May be associated with muscle fatigue, dehydration, certain medications, or electrolyte imbalances.

1️⃣2️⃣ Yellow eyes: This can be a sign of jaundice and may indicate a liver, bile duct, or blood-related problem. Seek prompt medical evaluation.

1️⃣3️⃣ Bleeding gums: May indicate gum disease, brushing trauma, or, sometimes, nutritional deficiencies.

⚠️ IMPORTANT HEALTH REMINDER:
These symptoms do not automatically mean you have the conditions listed. One symptom can have several causes, and proper medical assessment is the best way to identify the real problem.

🚨 Never self-diagnose or start taking supplements simply because you recognise a symptom. If symptoms persist, worsen, or concern you, consult a qualified healthcare professional. Sudden severe symptoms or difficulty breathing require urgent medical attention.

💚 Your health is your greatest wealth. Don't wait until your body screams before you start listening!

Have you ever bought a food item that looked suspiciously “too perfect” or had an unusual smell? Tell us about your experience 👇

🚨 WHAT EXACTLY ARE WE BUYING?

These days, buying food can sometimes feel like a detective job. 🕵️‍♂️🍅

Some food sellers may use chemicals or other substances improperly to speed up ripening, improve appearance, extend shelf life, prevent spoilage, or make food look fresher than it really is.

The scary part? You may not always be able to tell by simply looking at the food.

But don't panic—be a smarter buyer. 👇

🛒 7 WAYS TO MAKE SAFER FOOD CHOICES

1️⃣ Don't be fooled by “perfect” appearance.
If fruits or vegetables look unusually bright, uniformly ripe or unnaturally fresh, take a closer look. Appearance alone isn't proof of chemical contamination, but unusual characteristics deserve caution.

2️⃣ Check for unusual smells. 👃
Food with a strong chemical, petrol-like, bleach-like or otherwise abnormal odour should be avoided.

3️⃣ Be cautious with unnaturally rapid ripening. 🍌
If a food item appears dramatically ripe while other items from the same batch are still clearly unripe, ask questions and consider buying elsewhere.

4️⃣ Inspect the texture.
Excessively soft, watery, slimy or strangely firm food may indicate spoilage or poor handling.

5️⃣ Buy from trusted sources.
Choose reputable sellers who maintain good hygiene and proper storage practices. When possible, know where your food comes from.

6️⃣ Wash fresh produce properly. 🚿
Rinse fruits and vegetables thoroughly under clean running water before eating or preparing them. Don't assume washing can remove every chemical contaminant, though—it cannot make contaminated food automatically safe.

7️⃣ When in doubt, DON'T BUY IT! ❌
A cheap bargain isn't a bargain if it puts your family's health at risk.

⚠️ IMPORTANT!

There is no reliable “look, smell or taste” test that can detect every harmful chemical or contaminant. Some contaminants cannot be detected without proper laboratory testing.

So the safest strategy is simple:

BUY FROM TRUSTED SOURCES + CHECK THE FOOD CAREFULLY + PRACTISE GOOD FOOD HYGIENE + REPORT SUSPICIOUS PRODUCTS TO THE APPROPRIATE FOOD-SAFETY AUTHORITIES.

Your health is worth more than saving a few naira. ❤️

🚨 THE DANGERS OF SACHET & PLASTIC-BOTTLED ALCOHOL DRINKS 🚨

They may look cheap, convenient, and harmless—but frequent or excessive alcohol consumption can seriously affect your health.

🍺 Potential risks include:
• Liver damage and liver disease
• Alcohol dependence and addiction
• Brain and mental health problems
• Increased risk of heart-related problems
• Increased risk of certain cancers
• Accidents and poor decision-making
• Long-term damage to overall health

The packaging may be convenient, but the real danger is the alcohol itself—especially when consumed excessively or frequently.

👉 Drink responsibly. Better still, choose healthier alternatives and protect your future.

Your health is your wealth. Don't trade it for temporary pleasure. ❤️

🌽🌿 HERBAL USES OF CORN SILK

Did you know those silky strands you usually pull off corn and throw away may have some interesting traditional uses? 🌽✨

Corn silk is the soft, thread-like material found around the ear of corn. It has been used traditionally as an herbal preparation, particularly as a tea.

🌿 Some traditional and potential uses include:

1. 💧 Urinary health – Corn silk has traditionally been used to support normal urine flow.

2. 🚽 Mild diuretic use– It may encourage urination, which is one reason it has traditionally been used in preparations for urinary discomfort.

3. 🫗 Hydration support – Corn-silk tea can be consumed as a caffeine-free herbal drink.

4. 🌱 Antioxidant compounds – Research has identified various plant compounds in corn silk with antioxidant activity.

5. 🩺 Traditional blood-sugar use – Corn silk has been investigated for possible effects on blood glucose, but evidence in humans is still limited and it should not replace diabetes medication.

6. 🧪 Traditional inflammation-related use – Laboratory and animal studies have explored anti-inflammatory properties, but more quality human research is needed.

⚠️ Important: “Natural” doesn't automatically mean “safe for everyone.” If you're pregnant, taking medication—especially diuretics, blood-pressure or diabetes medicines—or have kidney/heart problems, speak with a healthcare professional before using corn silk medicinally.

🌽 Next time you eat corn, think twice before throwing away the silk!

Have you ever used corn silk tea or heard of any other traditional use for it? 👇🏾
