NOT EVERY BUMP IS ACNE 13.
Today, let's talk about viral warts
Ready 🤓
Viral warts are small, usually harmless skin growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They can sometimes be mistaken for acne, especially when they appear as small, raised bumps on the face.
CAUSES 🔥
◾HPV infection: The virus enters the skin through tiny cuts or breaks.
◾Skin-to-skin contact: Touching someone else's wart can spread the virus.
◾Contaminated surfaces: Sharing towels, razors, or walking barefoot in communal showers may spread HPV.
◾Shaving and scratching: These activities can spread existing warts to other areas of the skin.
◾Weakened immune system: People with reduced immunity may develop more persistent or numerous warts
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS 🔬
◾Small, raised, rough, or flat skin growths.
◾Skin-coloured, pink, brown, or darker bumps.
◾Sometimes appear in clusters.
◾Usually painless but may cause discomfort.
◾Unlike acne, warts generally do not contain pus or develop from clogged pores.
TREATMENT 🛡️
◾Salicylic acid: Helps gradually remove wart tissue. Use only products intended for warts and avoid applying them to facial or ge***al warts.
◾Cryotherapy: A dermatologist freezes the wart using liquid nitrogen.
◾Prescription treatments: Certain topical medications may be recommended for persi
◾Minor surgical procedures: Resistant warts may be removed through procedures such as curettage or electrosurgery.
◾Immune-based treatments: Sometimes used for stubborn or recurring warts.
PREVENTION ❌
Avoid picking, scratching, or shaving over warts.
Do not share razors or towels.
Wash your hands after touching a wart.
Keep your skin moisturized to reduce cracking.
Avoid direct contact with other people's warts.
IMPORTANT 🔔
Viral warts are not acne. Acne treatments such as benzoyl peroxide and regular acne cleansers do not treat HPV infections.
Many warts disappear naturally over time, but some persist or spread.
Consult a dermatologist if a growth is on your face, changes appearance, bleeds, spreads rapidly, or causes discomfort. A proper diagnosis is important before treatment.

NOT EVERY BUMP IS ACNE 12.
Today, let's talk about: STEROID-INDUCED ACNEIFORM ERUPTION
Ready 🤓
Steroid-induced acneiform eruption is an acne-like skin condition caused by the use of corticosteroid medications. Unlike ordinary acne, it usually appears as clusters of small, similar-looking red bumps or pus-filled pimples.
It commonly affects the face, chest, back, shoulders, and upper arms.
CAUSES 🔬
◾Prolonged use of steroid creams, especially potent ones.
◾Oral or injectable corticosteroid medications.
◾Misuse of steroid-containing skin-lightening creams.
◾Steroid medications used for certain inflammatory or medical conditions.
COMMON TRIGGERS 🔥
◾High-potency corticosteroids.
◾Prolonged or excessive steroid use.
◾Applying steroid creams to the face without medical supervision.
◾Heat, sweating, and occlusive skincare products may worse
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
◾Sudden appearance of small, uniform pimples.
◾Red bumps or pus-filled lesions.
◾Breakouts on the chest, back, shoulders, or face.
◾Usually fewer blackheads and whiteheads than ordinary acne.
◾Sometimes itching or skin irrit
Treatment
◾Review steroid use: Consult your doctor about reducing or replacing the triggering medication. Never abruptly stop prescribed oral or injectable steroids.
◾Gentle skincare: Use a mild cleanser, lightweight moisturizer, and non-comedogenic sunscreen.
◾Acne medication: Benzoyl peroxide or topical retinoids may help acne-type eruption
◾Antifungal treatment: Ketoconazole may be recommended if Malassezia folliculitis is diagnosed.
◾Prescription treatment: Severe cases may require doxycycline or isotretinoin under medical supervision.
PREVENTION ❌
◾Avoid steroid-containing skin-lightening creams.
◾Never use potent steroid creams without medical guidance.
◾Avoid harsh scrubs and excessive exfoliation.
◾Seek professional advice when unusual breakouts appear after steroid use.
REMEMBER 🔔: Not every pimple is ordinary acne. Correct diagnosis is essential because steroid-induced eruptions and fungal folliculitis may require different treatments.

NOT EVERY BUMP IS ACNE 12. Today, let's talk about: EPIDERMOID CYSTS:
Ready 🤓
WHAT ARE EPIDERMOID CYSTS? 🤔
Epidermoid cysts are slow-growing, usually harmless lumps beneath the skin. They contain keratin, a protein found in skin cells, and are commonly mistaken for acne.
They often appear on the face, neck, chest, back, and scalp.
CAUSES 🔥
◾Blocked hair follicles: Can contribute to cyst formation.
◾Trapped skin cells: Skin cells multiply beneath the surface instead of shedding normally.
◾Skin injuries: Cuts, scratches, or trauma can push epidermal cells deeper into the skin.
◾Genetics: Certain inherited conditions increase the risk.
SYMPTOMS 🎙️
◾Round, firm or slightly movable lump beneath the skin.
◾Slow growth, often without pain.
◾Small dark opening (punctum) at the center.
◾Thick, whitish, foul-smelling material if the cyst ruptures.
◾Redness, swelling, and tenderness when inflamed.
TREATMENT 🛡
◾Observation: Small, painless cysts may not require treatment.
◾Warm compress: May help relieve discomfort but will not remove the cyst.
◾Steroid injection: A dermatologist may use this to reduce inflammation in selected cases.
◾Incision and drainage: Provides temporary relief for certain swollen cysts, but recurrence is possible.
◾Surgical removal: Complete removal of the cyst wall is the most effective way to prevent recurrence.
◾Antibiotics: Only necessary when a bacterial infection is present and treatment is clinically indicated.
Antibiotics: Only necessary when a bacterial infection is present and treatment is clinically indicated.
WHAT TO AVOID ❌
◾Do not squeeze, pop, or puncture the cyst.
◾Avoid harsh exfoliation or aggressive acne treatments.
◾Do not attempt home surgical removal.
When to See a Dermatologist
Seek medical evaluation if the lump grows rapidly, becomes painful, repeatedly inflames, or develops redness, warmth, or discharge.
IMPORTANT 🔔 Epidermoid cysts are not ordinary acne pimples. Acne products such as salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide cannot remove an established cyst.

Good evening my Neighbors 🤗
NOT EVERY BUMP IS ACNE. Today, let's talk about folliculitis.
Ready 🤓
Folliculitis is an Inflammation/infection around hair follicles that can produce small red bumps or pus-filled spots.
Treatment for folliculitis depends on what is causing the inflamed hair follicles—usually bacteria, yeast, friction, shaving, sweating, or occlusion.
Simple treatment approach
🦠 Mild bacterial folliculitis: Keep the area clean and avoid shaving/picking. A benzoyl peroxide wash may help. A clinician may prescribe a topical antibiotic such as mupirocin or clindamycin when appropriate.
🦠Yeast (Malassezia) folliculitis: Antifungal treatment such as ketoconazole may be needed. It often looks like many small, similar, itchy bumps, especially on the chest, back, shoulders, or forehead.
🦠Shaving/friction-related: Stop shaving temporarily, avoid tight clothing/gear, reduce sweating and friction, and use a clean razor when shaving again.
🦠More severe or recurrent folliculitis: A healthcare professional may need to identify the organism and prescribe oral antibiotics or antifungals.
🔔Important: Folliculitis can look very similar to acne, but the treatments are not always the same.
If the bumps are painful, deep, spreading, repeatedly returning, leaving scars, or accompanied by fever, get medical assessment.
