Protective style ≠ protective by default. 🖤
I see it all the time , beautiful braids, but the foundation underneath is screaming for help. Too tight at the edges. Too heavy for the hairline. No moisture for weeks at a time.
Your style should never cost you your growth.
If your protective style isn’t actually protecting , it’s time for a different conversation. That’s what we do at The Blue Zone.
Took a trip out to Greensburg, Louisiana for a field day to tour a farmers food garden . We toured the fields, walked among crops growing in abundance, and sat under the wisdom of professors from LSU and Southern University speaking on horticulture and agriculture. Farmers and community leaders came from all over Opelousas, Lafayette, New Orleans, and beyond with programs and resources for everyone from children all the way up to senior citizens.
This is what it looks like when a community invests in the land and in each other. I documented the whole experience and I can’t wait to share it with you. The connections made today are seeds too. 🪺

🚨 Nobody wants to talk about this…
What if your braids are doing more than just “protecting “your hair …..
Thousands of women wear synthetic braiding hair every day.
But what if some of the chemicals used in synthetic hair are contributing to scalp irritation, inflammation, headaches, fatigue, skin reactions, and other symptoms that many women experience after getting braids?
I’m not saying synthetic braiding hair causes autoimmune disease.
I am asking a question:
Could synthetic braiding hair be triggering inflammatory responses in some people—especially those already dealing with autoimmune conditions?
Many women say their symptoms improved after switching hair types, washing synthetic hair before installation, or avoiding certain brands altogether.
Coincidence? Maybe.
Something worth discussing? Absolutely.
Have you ever experienced itching, burning, headaches, rashes, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, or other symptoms after getting synthetic braids?
