In 2012 he was promoted to sergeant where he served as a patrol and field training sergeant, and fleet coordinator. The goal of FinancialCop?
Educating first responders on building financial strength, and wellness, as well as full service financial planning, retirement planning, and understanding their pensions. Nick Daugherty began his career with the Grand Prairie Police Department in 2003, serving as a patrol officer, school resource officer, and on an underage alcohol and drug task force. After 2 ½ years he transitioned to lead the criminal intelligence unit. Following his semiretirement in August of 2017, Nick continued to serve as a reserve officer until his full retirement in 2023. As a young adult, Nick struggled with financial mismanagement. He did a lot of irresponsible things with money, partaking in “stupid tax” (the art of buying toys that he couldn’t afford using credit cards). Before he knew it, he had accumulated over $80,000 in consumer debt, most of which was wrapped up in cars, a $21,000 car stereo system, and expensive vacations. He was tired of being in debt and tired of working so much overtime just to pay his bills. Nick recognized the need for financial education. He discovered the “debt snowball” method to paying down debt and committed to paying off all of his debt. He worked over a thousand hours of overtime over two years and achieved his goal of becoming consumer debt-free in 2007! In 2011, Nick was approached by Grand Prairie Police Chief, Steve Dye, who asked him to design and teach a progressive financial wellness program for new recruits at the police academy. This program expanded into mandatory training for officers across numerous agencies throughout the DFW metroplex. “Building Financial Strength in First Responder Families” has now been taught to personnel from over 4,000 agencies, police academies, national conferences, and leadership organizations nationwide, giving them tools to help them start to win with money and work toward their retirement goals. Nick is now the owner of FinancialCop, one of the largest financial wellness training groups for first responders nationally, as well as a full service, fiduciary only financial planning firm. Additionally, he holds a health and life insurance license and has completed advanced coursework through Ken Zahn’s Certified Financial Planning professional education program. Driven by a deep passion for teaching, Nick is dedicated to guiding first responders and their families in financial management and planning. To have a nation full of first responders that have the ability to retire when they want to instead of spending their time chasing down a pension!

PASSWORD PHIL
Locked out of your own fortune. 🔒🤕
Phil has millions in crypto locked in the vault, but he snapped his key (forgot his seed phrase). Now he’s uselessly banging his head against impenetrable steel. 🔑 The Financial Cop says: In the digital world, custody is everything. Secure your passwords, seed phrases, and digital keys offline. If you lose access, it's gone forever. There is no "forgot password" button for decentralized finance. 👮♂️💾

Your 28-year-old needs $25K for a house. You have the money… but it’s part of your retirement savings. What do you do? 👀💰
As parents, we want to give our kids every opportunity to succeed. But after decades of working, shouldn't we be able to enjoy the retirement we've earned?
🔵 A: HELP YOUR KIDS — Give them a head start and help them build their future.
🔴 B: PROTECT YOUR RETIREMENT — You've worked hard for your financial independence, and your future matters too.
Here's where things get interesting…
👇 Are parents responsible for helping their adult children financially, or should retirement come first?
Drop A or B in the comments and tell us WHY!
Tag your spouse or share this with a fellow first responder. Would you both make the same decision?

RAIDING RICK
Robbing the old man. 🔨👴
Rick is smashing his piggy bank for some quick cash today. The problem? That pig is his own future self crying. 🐖💔 He’s stealing from his retirement and getting hit with taxes and penalties to boot. The Financial Cop states: Your 401k is not a checking account. Stop stealing from your future to pay for your present. 👮♂️🚫

A little Throwback Thursday with our Founder & CEO, Nick Daugherty, and his two little ones! 💙
Before Financial Cop, Nick was serving his community in uniform while raising the family that means the world to him. A sweet reminder that behind every badge is a family, and those are the moments that matter most.

$10K a month guaranteed for life… or $2 MILLION invested? 👀💰
One gives you the peace of mind of knowing exactly what's coming in every month. The other gives you control over a larger nest egg, with the potential for growth AND the risk of market losses.
So here's the million-dollar question (or should we say $2 million 😂)…
Which would YOU rather have when you retire?
🔵 A: $10K/month guaranteed for life.
🔴 B: $2 million invested and control over your money.
👇 Drop A or B in the comments and tell us WHY! We're curious to see which side wins this one.
Tag a fellow first responder who's getting close to retirement. We want their vote, too!

PROBATE PAT
Left a mess for the rest. ⚰️🦅
Pat didn't think he needed a will. Now that he's gone, the state and the lawyers are vultures picking his bones clean while his family fights over the scraps in the background. 🦴 It’s a tragedy that was 100% preventable. The Financial Cop says: Estate planning isn't for the rich; it's for anyone who loves their family. Get a will and protect your legacy. 👮♂️📝
